Our Approach & Principles

Jogo Behaviour Support

At Jogo Behaviour Support, our principles shape the way we work with children, young people, families, schools and professionals.

They reflect our belief that understanding, connection and collaboration are the foundations of lasting positive change.

The values that guide everything we do

1. We begin with understanding

We believe that lasting positive change starts with understanding each child's unique strengths, experiences and needs. We take time to understand the whole child before considering how best to provide support.

2. We see the whole child

Children are more than the difficulties they may be experiencing. We recognise their strengths, interests, relationships and potential, understanding that emotional wellbeing, development, learning and life experiences are all interconnected.

3. Relationships matter

Positive relationships provide the foundation for learning, emotional wellbeing and development. We strive to build trusting, respectful relationships with children, families, schools and professionals because meaningful change happens through connection.

4. Behaviour is communication

Behaviour is often a way of expressing an underlying need, emotion or experience. Rather than simply responding to behaviour itself, we seek to understand what it may be communicating so that support addresses the underlying need as well as the outward presentation.

5. Every child is unique

There is no single approach that works for every child. We tailor our support to each child's individual strengths, needs and circumstances, recognising that development is influenced by many different experiences and factors.

6. We work collaboratively

The best outcomes are achieved when children, families, schools and professionals work together. We value partnership, shared understanding and open communication, ensuring everyone involved feels supported and confident in the agreed approach.

7. We are research informed and practice based

Our work combines current research with decades of professional experience. As practitioners who continue to work directly with children, families and schools, we ensure that our support is both evidence informed and practical to implement in everyday settings.

8. We build confidence, not dependence

Our aim is to empower those around the child by developing knowledge, skills and confidence that continue long after our direct involvement has ended. We seek to create sustainable change that benefits children and young people into the future.

9. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive

Every child has strengths, potential and the capacity for growth when they feel understood, supported and valued. Our role is to help create the conditions in which children and young people can develop confidence, resilience and a positive sense of themselves.

In everything we do, we are committed to:

  • Understanding before judgement.
  • Collaboration before assumptions.
  • Relationships before solutions.
  • Practical support that creates lasting change.
  • Helping children and young people to feel understood, valued and able to thrive.
Together, we are building stronger futures.
