Coloured Rice
Materials:
- Rice
- White vinegar
- Food colouring
- Food flavouring
- Washing-up bowl
Age: two years upwards
Put one cup of rice in a plastic sandwich bag, add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, enough food colouring to give the required colour and 1 teaspoon of food flavouring. Tie the bag and move the contents around until the rice is fully coated in the food colouring. Spread out the rice onto a baking paper lined cold baking tin and bake in the open (gas mark 2) for about 30 minutes. Leave to cool. Place in a washing-up bowl and the rice can be played with on its own or small toys can be added to the washing up bowl. Or the rice could be added to a small plastic bottle and small items could be included for the children to find.
