About Sara

I have been working as a qualified holistic therapist offering alternative therapeutic therapies for 25 years and as a qualified Person-centred Counsellor for the past twelve years. Both these disciplines have enabled me to experience, understand and explore with clients, anxieties and traumas that are held both in the mind and body. I am a BACP registered Counsellor and have worked with young people aged 14yrs to 25yrs in a FE college for 10 years and with both adults and young people in my own private Counselling practice for eight years. For 7 years I worked as a Teaching Assistant in a secondary school working on a one to one and group basis with young people who found education and life in general challenging. Here, I also ran morning nurture groups for young people to explore, build and experience issues such as relationships, identity and communication skills. This work involved the building of relationships using creative interventions as well as the spoken word. It is this experience and understanding that I bring to my work as a play therapist.

I have an MA in Play therapy from Roehampton University and am a registered member of BAPT. I understand the importance of working with the child, family and other professionals which involves building relationships based on honesty, trust and a genuine desire to work collaboratively. I believe Play therapy enables each child to experience what it means to be seen and heard and provides a safe, containing space to challenge unhelpful perceptions, encourage self-understanding and self-acceptance.
